CD Zapping

Ever wondered why you shouldn't put certain items into a microwave? Let me demonstrate with an ordinary, boring CD:

CD begins to burn
It's already crackling nicely...
CD catches fire
Large flames are appearing...
CD burns fiercely
It's beginning to look rather the worse for wear...
CD begins to melt
It's melting!
CD melted
Stopped due to excessive smoke.
CD melted
I wonder if my CD-ROM drive will still read it?

Don't try this at home!

Unfortunately it's quite hard to photograph anything behind the wire mesh of a microwave oven's door, so you can't quite make out the often beautiful multicoloured arcs that ripple through the CD's surface as it burns.
